Tucked along the banks of the Toccoa River just 15 minutes from downtown Blue Ridge, five luxury cabins became the backdrop for a six-day family reunion filled with laughter, outdoor activities, and lifelong memories.
For the past 20 years, we have hosted dozens of family reunions and large groups at our unique side-by-side Blue Ridge cabin rentals. Recently, an itinerary for a family reunion was shared with us, and it deserves to be shared as inspiration for your Blue Ridge getaway. From riverside yoga to a family talent show, their reunion was everything a mountain getaway should be: relaxed, connected, and joyful.
If you're looking to plan a family reunion that's more than just a weekend of catching up, consider this your guide.
Day 1: Arrival + Reconnecting
After everyone arrived (from all the way to Texas and New York) and checked into their luxury cabins around 3:30 PM, the week began with an informal gathering at 8:00 PM. The opportunity for siblings and cousins to watch the sunset on the porch and aunts and uncles to laugh around the dining table set the tone for the week.
Day 2: Brunch, Bonfires, and S'mores by the River
Easing in to mountain time, the second day tarted slow with brunch in either Blue Ridge or McCaysville around 11:30AM-plenty of options, whether you're craving biscuits or Bloody Marys. General Ledger is one of our favorites!
After a quick grocery run and some time settling into their individual cabins, the family gathered from 4-6 PM at Fallen Timber Lodge for a welcome reception. With signup sheets for the week's activities and a chance to mingle with extended family, the family reunion truly began here.
Dinner was casual in each individual cabin followed by a 10 PM campfire with all the stops: crackling wood, starry skies, and perfectly roasted s'mores along the Toccoa River.
Day 3: A Day Out On the Town
The morning was theirs to enjoy: some slept in, others explored the shops downtown. By 12:30 PM, the crew met for lunch in Blue Ridge before boarding the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway at 2 PM. Two or four-hour rides are available as this historic train winds its way along the Toccoa River to McCaysville. Purchase your tickets in advance as this always sells out!
As evening rolled in, they stopped by Grumpy Old Men Brewing for a cold (crafted) one, then capped off the night with an outing to the Swan Drive-In Theater. Cars parked side-by-side, lawn chairs unfolded, and the silver screen lit up under the summer sky: a true American summer night.
Day 4: Waterfalls, Wineries, and a Mountain Potluck
This day started with something for everyone. Some opted for coffee by the river, while others teed off at Old Toccoa Farms. Later in the morning, guests chose between chasing waterfalls like Fall Branch Falls or sipping local wines at Bear Claw Vineyards.
At 1 PM, they met up for U-Pick at Mercier Orchards, gathering fresh fruit and snacks for the evening's family potluck dinner back at the cabins.
At 6:30 PM, dinner was served, the stories flowed, and the joy of sharing a meal together under one roof made this evening especially memorable. Game night followed complete with trivia, cards, and lots of laughter.
Day 5: Waterfront Adventures and the Family Talent Show
The final full day was all about adventure. It began with optional riverside yoga or a walk along the train tracks to soak in the scenery. Then came the main event: a day on the water. Some went whitewater rafting on the Ocoee River, others tubed right from the cabins, and a few kayaked down the Toccoa-all just steps away from their front door.
Lunch was at Burra Burra on the River in McCaysville, where riverfront dining meets classic American food.
That evening, they dined out before heading back for the night's grand finale: the Family Talent Show. From songs to skits to dad jokes, it was the perfect way to celebrate the uniqueness of every person in the group.
Day 6: Saying the "See You Laters"
Checkout came at 10 AM, and while bags were packed and cars loaded, no one was in a rush to leave. Hugs lingered a little longer as the last few moments of family time were savored.
