Minister Mauro Vieira will lead the Brazilian delegation to the 14th World Trade Organization (WTO) Ministerial Conference (MC14), to be held from March 26 to 29 in Yaoundé, Cameroon.
Convened every two years, the Ministerial Conference is the WTO's highest decision-making body. It can adopt decisions regarding any of the multilateral trade agreements, including the Marrakech Agreement, which established the Organization. The Yaoundé Conference will focus primarily on the WTO reform, in light of the vulnerability of the multilateral trading system.
Brazil will direct its participation toward the defense of a rules-based multilateral system and a deep transformation of the WTO, so that the Organization has flexibility and modern, effective mechanisms to address the challenges of today's international trade.
Brazil will remain committed to correcting the growing distortions in international agricultural trade-a longstanding WTO issue-whose resolution is of great interest to the country.
Brazil will also seek to promote the adoption of disciplines that allow developing countries to implement industrialization or reindustrialization policies, in the context of reshaping production practices, with a view to ensuring a green and sustainable transformation.
