Banca Transilvania is the first bank in Romania to join the Visa Agent-Ready program, an initiative through which Visa, a global leader in digital payments, is preparing the payments ecosystem for the new era of autonomous commerce, based on commercial transactions initiated by agents powered by artificial intelligence.

BT is involved in both the testing and development of new agency-based commerce solutions.

The program is initially launching in Europe and provides a structured framework for testing and validating transactions conducted using AI agents. In the first phase, participants will collaborate with Visa and merchants to assess how these payments can operate securely and at scale in controlled production environments. Europe was chosen as the starting point for the initiative's rollout due to the high level of adoption of technologies such as tokenization, biometric authentication, and advanced security systems-capabilities already integrated into Visa's global network.

Romania is an extremely dynamic market when it comes to adopting new payment technologies. Banca Transilvania's participation in the Visa Agentic Ready program demonstrates the local ecosystem's openness to the next generation of digital commerce experiences. Through this initiative, Visa aims to build the trusted infrastructure that will enable AI agents to initiate secure payments, offering consumers simpler, smarter shopping experiences that are always under their control. We believe this type of innovation will open up significant opportunities for consumers, merchants, and financial institutions in Romania, contributing to the development of smart, personalized, and efficient commerce.

Elena Ungureanu

Banca Transilvania is delighted to join the Visa Agentic Ready program and help shape the future of smart and secure payments. As AI-driven commerce accelerates, our goal is for both consumers and businesses to benefit from seamless, secure, and scalable payment experiences.

Through this program, Visa aims to accelerate the development of a smart, programmable commerce model in which digital agents can initiate and manage transactions on behalf of users, while ensuring that consumers retain ultimate control over their payments.
