Portion of Tulip Road closing for bridge replacement
What: A Georgia Department of Transportation contractor plans to close a portion of Tulip Road in Ben Hill County next week for replacement of the bridge over Young Creek. The detour is expected to be in place for about five months. The detour route, which will be marked with signs, will begin at the intersection of Tulip Road and State Route 90 and extend to the intersection of Sundew Road. Traffic will continue on Sundew Road back to Tulip Road. This detour is for non-local/through traffic. Only local traffic will be able to access Tulip Road on either side of the construction site.

The bridge, built in 1955, is being replaced as part of the Department's Low Impact Bridge Program. The LIBP helps local governments replace old or structurally deficient bridges. These are simple bridge replacement projects that utilize prefabricated bridge components and off-site detours, which allows for faster completion. The construction contract to replace the bridge over Young Creek is approximately $1.6 million.

Where: Tulip Road bridge over Young Creek, Ben Hill County.

When: The detour for non-local/through traffic is scheduled to begin Monday, March 16.
