Rep. Crank Votes to Reduce Regulatory Burdens and Increase Consumer Home Appliance Choice

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Today, Representative Jeff Crank (CO-05) voted in favor of H.R. 4626, The Home Appliance Protection and Affordability Act.

The Home Appliance Protection and Affordability Act reduces regulatory burdens for home appliances to increase consumer choice and prevents the weaponization of energy efficiency standards, while ensuring standards are cost-effective and lower energy prices for hardworking households.

"Burdensome regulations only harm our hardworking households," said Rep. Crank. "The so-called Inflation Reduction Act spent billions on programs and regulations that only served to make it harder to own a home in America. With this vote, we are eliminating those failed policies and moving one step closer to making the American Dream a reality for Coloradans."

Background:

  • Homeowners spend about 34% more on appliances than they did 15 years ago. From 1995-2005, the average homeowner replaced their appliances every 12 to 13 years.
    • Today, that replacement period runs every 8 to 9 years.
