(Grande Prairie, Alta. - February 17, 2026) - A winter parking ban will take effect Wednesday, February 17 at 7 a.m. on permanent snow routes. Parking is restricted on Priority 1 and Priority 2 roads from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday to Friday, until the ban is lifted.

These routes include main roads, transit corridors and roads frequently used by emergency services. Moving vehicles off the street during a parking ban allows crews to clear snow curb to curb, prevent hard-packed snow buildup and maintain safe, reliable travel across the city.

Residential Snow Clearing

Residential snow clearing will begin Thursday, February 19, starting with the Week A - Thursday neighbourhoods of Kensington, O'Brien Lake, Stone Ridge and Mission Heights. Crews will follow the City's two-week rotation schedule, working through assigned neighbourhoods each weekday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

During residential clearing, vehicles must be removed from the roadway on your scheduled day. Clear streets at the start of the work window allow crews to access narrow roads, complete full passes and reduce icy or uneven driving conditions.

Snow storage piles remain in many residential areas from previous snowfall. With additional heavy snow, these piles may expand and extend further into the roadway. Crews are monitoring conditions, and residents are asked to use caution and allow extra space where road width may be reduced.

Temporary residential parking restrictions will be in effect from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on scheduled clearing days.

Residents are encouraged to:

  • Move vehicles promptly when parking bans are in effect
  • Check their assigned residential clearing day
  • Sign up for text or email reminders
  • Track progress in real time using the interactive snow clearing map
