UFCW Int'l President: "Lawmakers must seize this opportunity and deliver for America's workers"
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union (UFCW), which represents 1.2 million essential workers across North America, released a statement celebrating the results of the 2026 Midterm Elections. With Democrats winning back control of both the U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate and with union-backed candidates elected to state legislatures across the country, lawmakers have a mandate to tackle affordability and protect working Americans.
UFCW International President Milton Jones said:
"By successfully flipping both chambers of Congress and electing union-backed candidates to governors' mansions and state legislatures across the country, American workers sent a resounding message that they are ready for a new path. They expect lawmakers to show up for them by making life more affordable, protecting their rights on the job, and standing with them against the megacorporations.
"Come January, we have an opportunity to enact legislation that tackles the affordability crisis. Lawmakers should ban surveillance pricing and electronic shelf labels in grocery stores, so that shoppers are safe from corporate price gouging and communities can keep good, union jobs right where they are. They must also protect essential workers, like the meatpacking workers in poultry and pork plants across the country who will face a more dangerous livelihood if the Trump administration raises line speeds. And they must end the chaos of ICE and immigration enforcement that has paralyzed communities and threatened the stability of our economy.
"We are proud of the UFCW members, who knocked doors, attended rallies, and drove voter turnout from coast-to-coast, and without whom these victories could not have happened. Their tireless efforts this year prove that our greatest strength lies in our solidarity. Today, we celebrate these historic victories and look forward to building a better future for all Americans."
