LADWP and Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum Team Up for Game Day Hydration

Access to Clean Drinking Water Increases Convenience and Sustainability at Iconic Sports Venue

LOS ANGELES ( December 19, 2025) - The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) and Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum today announced completion of 21 new modern hydration stations with bottle fillers at the sports facility. The stations provide the LA Coliseum visitors free, safe and refreshing tap water, and are part of a citywide effort to promote access to drinking water in publicly accessible facilities. Marked with signs that say, "Cheer, Hydrate, Repeat," the new hydration stations include 12 outdoor units with two bottle fillers at each location and nine internal units with one bottle filler. Athletes also have access to one at the field tunnel entrance.

"LADWP is committed to providing greater access to free drinking water at public spaces throughout our city," said Janisse Quiñones, LADWP CEO and Chief Engineer. "We are proud to partner with the LA Coliseum on these new drinking fountains and filling stations. By working with our partners, we can provide high quality drinking water for all showing the livability of our city and our joint commitment to the reduction of plastic waste."

"The Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum is proud to partner with LADWP on the installation of upgraded hydration stations throughout our venue," said Matthew Buswell, Director of Stadium Operations, Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. "This collaboration enhances the fan experience while furthering our shared commitment to sustainability through convenient refill stations that help reduce single-use plastics. The process was efficient and well-coordinated, and we greatly appreciate the support of the LADWP team throughout the project."

Funding for the LA Coliseum's hydration stations were provided by the LADWP Hydration Station Incentive Program (HSIP) that provides rebates for the installation of new and/or refurbished hydration stations. The program is open to city departments and LADWP non-residential customers with businesses or facilities in publicly accessible areas. The addition of hydration stations in civic, public spaces provides increased convenience, pedestrian traffic and livable and sustainable communities.

To date LADWP has installed 308 hydration stations, with 70 percent of them located in disadvantaged communities. LADWP's goal is to install hydration stations in public spaces across the city by 2028 to help welcome visitors and tourists from all over the world for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The HSIP program also has added environmental and health benefits by helping reduce single-use plastic bottles and providing alternatives to sugary soft drinks. The first phase of the program prioritized municipally owned buildings and public properties such as parks with over half of them located in disadvantaged communities.

HSIP's success has been possible because of a city-wide partnership and collaboration effort between several L.A. City agencies. These included the L.A. Department of Recreation and Parks (RAP), General Services Division (GSD), Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA), Bureau of Street Services (StreetsLA), the Los Angeles Public Library (LAPL), the L.A. Zoo, and the Los Angeles Convention Center (LACC). Future agreements with potential partners are currently being developed to expand the program to many more communities in other parts of the city.

Reimbursement levels for participation in the HSIP program are up to $5,000 for indoor units and up to $10,000 for outdoor units. For eligibility requirements and program rules please visit www.ladwp.com/HSIP or call (213) 367-3182.
