Hoots and Howls Weekend!, Mounds State Park

October 17
6:30-7:30pm Creatures of the Night Hike
What's that sound? Did you see that light over there? Meet the Naturalist on the Visitor Center Lawn for a 1-hour moderate hike along Trail 3 to investigate what creatures lurk in the forest at night. Program is family-friendly but may not be suitable for strollers or children afraid of the dark. Closed-toe shoes are recommended. Red-light flashlights only, please!

October 18
8:00pm Trick or Treat Trail
Trick-or-treat along the trail from the Bronnenberg Home to the boardwalk on Trail 2 from 6-8PM. Learn about seasonal topics including moths, bioluminescence, and historic Halloween practices as you make your way toward the Great Mound. Participate in themed interactive areas exploring eye shine, owl calls, and more as Trail 2 winds back toward the parking area. Boardwalk contains stairs - alternate route available, see a staff member or call the Naturalist Office (765-649-8128) for details. Arriving early? Enjoy the seasonal decorations and photo-op props in the area around the trail and Visitor Center!

7-7:30pm Campsite Decorating Contest
Camping this weekend? Decorate your campsite for the chance to win big! There will be 2 categories: Just for Fun and Scariest. First place and runners-up for both categories will win prizes! Judging will begin at dusk - the perfect time to turn on your lights and set the scene. Winners will be announced immediately following judging.

October 19
9am-3pm Creepy-Crawly Scavenger Hunt
Stop by the Visitor Center to pick up a Scavenger Hunt that will have you looking for creatures and colors of the ~creepy~ variety. Learn about the important jobs they do in our park and beyond. If you finish the mission before 3:30PM, stop by the Visitor Center to pick up a prize.
