City's programs are available to help you consider the long-term environmental, financial and health benefits of electrifying your home. Electric appliances like heat pump water heaters, heat pump HVACs, electric vehicles, solar panels, and induction stoves, are more efficient than their counterparts.
Switching is easy with City tools and rebates saving you time and money. Join your neighbors who have switched, protecting the planet one home at a time. Some or all of these appliances may be required to be replaced with electric alternatives. Take advantage of savings, plus switch now and gain a chance to save even more.
Community Progress Towards "80x30"
We are recognizing Earth Day/Earth Month, by celebrating our community's progress reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 80% by 2030 (based on 1990 levels). Thanks to community actions there has been a 47% decrease in community emissions (2022 results), which is about halfway to the goal and midway through the initial Sustainability & Climate Action Plan cycle. This is with a 21% population increase.

What You Need to Know to Participate
Entry into the giveaway program is from April 21, 2025 to June 21, 2025 by 11:59 p.m. The winner will be drawn on June 22, 2025. All City of Palo Alto Utilities residential customers living in single family homes are eligible to participate.
Three simple ways to participate:

Complete an installation contract through the City's full-service HPWH program or HPWH emergency replacement service.

Sign a contract with a licensed contractor to install a heat pump water heater.

Purchase a heat pump water heater as a do-it-yourself installation project (Apply for a Heat Pump Water Heater rebate through the City's portal).
