The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Antonio Tajani, have instructed the Italian Ambassador to Switzerland, Gian Lorenzo Cornado, to immediately contact the Chief Public Prosecutor of the Canton of Valais, Béatrice Pilloud, in order to convey the Government's and Italy's strong indignation following the decision of the Court of Compulsory Measures of Sion to release Jacques Moretti from prison, despite the extremely serious offence he is suspected of, the grave responsibilities weighing upon him, the ongoing flight risk, and the clear danger that the evidence against him may be further tampered with.
This decision is a serious affront and inflicts further suffering upon the families of the victims of the Crans-Montana tragedy and those still undergoing treatment in hospital.
The whole of Italy demands truth and justice and calls for respectful measures to be adopted in the wake of this tragedy, measures that fully take into account the suffering and expectations of the families involved.
The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Antonio Tajani, have therefore recalled Ambassador Cornado to Rome in order to define the further action to be taken.
