Celebrating the Professionals Who Keep Us Moving Forward

Since September 2025, Irina Merryman has brought organization, clarity and professionalism to her role as an executive administrative assistant supporting AEP Transmission President Doug Cannon and his team. She plays a key role in keeping day-to-day operations running smoothly and priorities moving forward.

"Our administrative professionals play a vital role in AEP's success," said Bill Fehrman, AEP chairman, president and chief executive officer. "Your professionalism, dedication and attention to detail support our leaders and teams in important ways, and your impact is felt across the company. Thank you for your continued commitment to AEP and to the customers we serve."

Irina originally pursued culinary arts to work as a chef, but after being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis at 19, she pivoted from the physical demands of the kitchen into healthcare.

As a surgical and medical assistant, she discovered a passion for helping leaders and teams operate at their best. Irina then spent several years supporting healthcare and insurance executives.

"I realized I really enjoy being the person behind the scenes who brings structure to moving parts, keeps people aligned and helps things move forward," Irina said. "It is a role that requires both strong execution and strong instincts, and that combination has been very rewarding for me."

Since starting her career at AEP, Irina has valued the culture of openness and leadership engagement. She appreciates that leaders genuinely listen, seek feedback and work to stay connected with employees.

No two days are the same in her role. Fortunately, Irina thrives in fast-moving environments. Doug calls her the "chaos coordinator," a title she embraces.

"Irina and our other administrative assistants at AEP are truly the conductors behind the scenes that keep the whole enterprise moving forward. These dedicated administrative assistants make sure every detail is covered, that time is utilized efficiently and that deadlines and commitments are met," Doug said. "These daily efforts help AEP deliver for our customers and our shareholders. My thanks to Irina and the rest of our administrative assistants at AEP."

Her advice for anyone looking to get into executive support is to be ready to create momentum behind the scenes. When it's done well, it helps leaders and teams stay aligned, reduces friction and keeps important work on schedule.

"I take a lot of pride in being someone who can connect the dots, anticipate needs and help drive progress," Irina said.

Outside of work, Irina enjoys spending time with her husband, 6-year-old son and her two German shepherds, staying active, working on her home and tending to her garden.
