On April 8, 2026, in Sarajevo, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Elmedin Konaković, met with John Ginkel, the Chargé d'Affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Joshua Walz, the Special Envoy for Global Energy Integration at the U.S. Department of Energy.
Minister Konaković expressed his gratitude to the United States for its ongoing and strong support of Bosnia and Herzegovina's stability and the implementation of key strategic projects. He emphasized that a robust and visible U.S. presence in Bosnia and Herzegovina is crucial for enhancing political and economic security, building trust among international partners, and reinforcing the commitment to the country's stability and development.
They discussed the Southern Interconnection project, which aims to provide Bosnia and Herzegovina with access to the global LNG market and to connect it with terminals on the Adriatic, and is one of the most strategically significant energy projects for the nation. The Minister highlighted that the implementation of this project is not only an energy concern but also a vital political and security matter, as it strengthens Bosnia and Herzegovina's ties with Euro-Atlantic partners, including the potential for long-term natural gas deliveries from the United States.
It was pointed out that the successful implementation of projects like the Southern Interconnection can further strengthen the interest of American investors in investing in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and that to attract investments, it is important to ensure a stable and predictable legislative framework, which guarantees security for investors and accelerates the implementation of strategic projects.
