ARROYO GRANDE - The County of San Luis Obispo Department of Public Works recently completed grading on the County portion of Hi Mountain Road.
Public Works and theUSFScooperate in providing public access to the Los Padres National Forest over a portion of Hi Mountain Road. The portion from the Los Padres National Forest southern boundary, approximately two miles northeast of Lopez Lake, through USFS lands, to Pozo Road at the USFS Pozo Fire Station, is a non-County-maintained public road and subject to seasonal closure.
Gates are maintained for public safety purposes to control public access to the Los Padres National Forest during the rainy season. USFS staff determine when the opening or closing of gates on Hi Mountain Road is appropriate, based on public safety considerations and the condition of the road. The location of these gates can be seen on this map.
The public is expected to have through access on Hi Mountain Road until the next storm season, except in the event of any emergency road closures.
