We will participate today in the Informal Meeting of the EU Ministers of Foreign Affairs at an exceptionally critical juncture. At a critical juncture for the strategic autonomy of the European Union, which should develop its defense capabilities and strengthen its international footprint so that it can maintain a very strong position in the world in difficult times.
Today, we will discuss the issue of the Western Balkans, the pre-accession process. Greece has always been a frontrunner regarding the integration of the Western Balkans into the European family.
We will continue to support this effort. It is important to clarify that certain principles of the European Union, of the European family, are non-negotiable, such as adherence to international law, commitment to the rule of law and respect for the principles of democracy.
Today, 80 years after the end of World War II, we find ourselves, unfortunately, perhaps at the worst moment globally. The war in Ukraine has been raging for over three years since the Russian invasion. Hostilities continue in Gaza. And every day new conflict zones emerge around the world, such as between India and Pakistan. We are also witnessing a degradation of human life in areas, such as the Sub-Saharan Africa, particularly in Sudan, with displaced populations and people on the verge of poverty.
The European Union and the entire world should intensify their efforts so that the lessons of World War II remain relevant. Human dignity and freedom should be the main global concern.
Thank you.
