Baumgartner Announces Winner of Classroom to the Capitol Contest

WASHINGTON- Congressman Michael Baumgartner (WA-05) today announced that Bill Plucker, a longtime teacher at Walla Walla High School, has been selected as the winner of this year's Classroom to the Capitol Contest and will join the Congressman as his guest at the State of the Union Address on February 24.

Mr. Plucker, who has taught social studies, civics, and AP Government for more than 33 years, started Walla Walla High School's AP Government program and has inspired generations of students to engage in public service and leadership. In addition to his work in the classroom, he has coached football, baseball, girls basketball, and softball, and remains active as a Boy Scout volunteer. A proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps, Mr. Plucker exemplifies the dedication, discipline, and community spirit that make educators such a vital part of Eastern Washington.

"Bill Plucker represents the very best of Eastern Washington - a teacher, coach, and veteran who has dedicated his life to shaping the next generation of citizens and leaders," said Congressman Baumgartner. "I'm honored to have him join me at the State of the Union as a testament to the impact great educators have on our communities."

Baumgartner also expressed his gratitude to all who submitted nominations to the Classroom to the Capitol Contest, recognizing the outstanding educators who make a difference in the lives of young people.

"Every nominee demonstrated exceptional dedication to their students and communities, and it was truly inspiring to hear about the lasting impact they've made," Congressman Baumgartner said. "I am encouraged and optimistic about the future because of the incredible work being done by educators like Bill."
