LOS ANGELES HARBOR COMMISSION ELECTS BEATRICE HSU PRESIDENT, YOLANDA DE LA TORRE VICE PRESIDENT

Sept. 10, 2026 - The Los Angeles Board of Harbor Commissioners unanimously elected civic and business leader Beatrice Hsu as president of the five-member board that oversees the Port of Los Angeles. Wilmington community leader Yolanda De La Torre was elected vice president. Both leadership terms are for one year.

Hsu was appointed to the Harbor Commission by Mayor Karen Bass and confirmed by the Los Angeles City Council in June. A longtime civic and business leader, Hsu is an independent advisor specializing in real estate development, asset management and investments. She has previously held leadership positions at Brookfield Properties and Related California, and has served on various nonprofit, government and corporate boards, including as board member, board president and interim CEO of Los Angeles World Airports. Hsu is also a board member and founding CEO of Builders Alliance, a non-profit organization established to accelerate rebuilding following the January 2025 Los Angeles wildfires.
"Especially in today's dynamic landscape for global trade, I am honored to be entrusted to serve in this role for the Port, a vital economic engine for our region and nation," said Hsu. She succeeds former Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard, who stepped down from the Commission in July. "I look forward to continuing to build upon the great work already underway."
Wilmington resident De La Torre has served on the Harbor Commission since January 2025. For nearly three decades, De La Torre has worked for the YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles, serving as executive director in Wilmington since 1995 and, more recently, as the YMCA's district representative. She is also vice president of the YMCA's Mission Advancement Team.
"I'm humbled to take on this new Commission role and grateful for the trust and confidence of my fellow commissioners," said De La Torre. "I look forward to working together to support the continued success of the Port, while ensuring that our surrounding communities continue to share in its progress."
The Los Angeles Board of Harbor Commissioners oversees the management and operation of the Port of Los Angeles. The Board is comprised of five members, all volunteers, who are appointed by the Mayor of Los Angeles and confirmed by the Los Angeles City Council.
