In the last week, we have witnessed many concerning actions that do not align with our values as the region's community foundation. The Chicago Community Trust was founded 110 years ago to meet the critical needs of our most vulnerable residents. It is something we will always do. We are also committed to creating a more inclusive economy to build a Chicago region where opportunity and prosperity are within reach for everyone. We embrace Chicago's diversity as a core strength and efforts designed to limit or discourage opportunity will cost us all.
Recent raids and threats of mass deportation affect not only those who have come here in search of a better life but also our broader Chicago community from both a humanitarian and an economic perspective. Threats to our fragile social safety nets create stress and anxiety for the most vulnerable among us, who are already struggling to make sure they have food, housing, and medical care for their families.
We have heard from many of our grant partners about their challenges and worries at this time. We stand ready to continue engaging with you to determine how we can best support our neighbors.
The Trust was created to unite our community, help it face its most pressing challenges, and seize its greatest opportunities. That commitment extends to everyone in our region, regardless of age, race, national origin, gender, religion, documentation status, or any other characteristic. The Trust is working closely with the nonprofit community, other funders, and our multi-sector partners to ensure we stay true to that commitment, now more than ever.
Thank you for your continued partnership.
