Rep. Ansari Introduces New Bill to Cut Red Tape, Update Permitting Systems

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Representative Yassamin Ansari (AZ-03), who serves as the Ranking Member on the House Natural Resources Energy and Minerals Subcommittee introduced new legislation aimed at modernizing the permitting systems at the U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI).

"My bill cuts red tape, saves taxpayers money, and makes it easier for Americans to navigate the permitting process, hauling the long-outdated system into the 21st Century" said Rep. Ansari. "As the Ranking Member of the Energy and Minerals Subcommittee, this is no-brainer reform."

Ansari's legislation requires the Department of the Interior to implement a modernized electronic permitting system capable of accepting, processing, and recording applications for permits, forms, and related documents. A key component of the bill is the creation of a centralized electronic permitting system that will be accessible online via DOI's website. The online repository Ansari's bill creates would connect users directly to all DOI electronic permitting systems, making the process more user-friendly.

Local organizations across Arizona's Third Congressional District apply for U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI) permits regularly, whether it's for building roads to taking scout troops on camping trips. Ansari's bill will enhance the efficiency of the permitting process.
