Future Secured: Birmingham’s HAF Programme Expands to Reach More Families Than Ever

Since its launch, Birmingham's HAF programme has provided thousands of children and young people with enriching activities, nutritious meals, and safe spaces to learn, play and grow. Designed for children aged 5 to 16 who are eligible for free school meals, the programme has become a vital lifeline for families across the city, especially during high-pressure holiday periods.

Delivered during spring, summer, and winter holidays, Bring it on Brum! offers a wide range of enriching experiences, including:

• Sports, dance, and outdoor play
• Arts and crafts, music, and drama
• Cooking workshops and nutrition education
• STEM activities and nature exploration

These sessions are hosted by hundreds of trusted local providers, including schools, community organisations, and faith groups, ensuring that children have access to safe, inclusive, and engaging environments close to home.

The programme also supports parents and carers by offering:

• Free meals for children during holidays
• Guidance on healthy eating and budgeting
• Access to wider family support services

It ensures they have experiences they might otherwise miss due to a range of circumstances. These activities support their wellbeing and provide much-needed respite for parents and carers.

This programme gives children access to opportunities they wouldn't otherwise have, and that's something we're incredibly proud of."
