Bettendorf Public Library Invites Young Readers to Participate in Annual Toddler Reading Program September 22, 2025 - The Bettendorf Public Library wants your little one to "Be a Roaring Reader!" That's the theme of this year's Toddler Reading Program, which fires up on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, for children ages birth to five years old who have not yet entered kindergarten. Registration is available in person at the library starting October 1, and each participant will receive a small plush dragon reading buddy. "Listening to stories is an essential step in eventually learning to read," said Andrew Miller, Early Literacy Librarian at the Bettendorf Public Library. "Time spent reading together helps children develop a desire to read independently, and beyond reading motivation, listening to stories helps children learn new vocabulary words and helps the language portions of their brain make strong neural connections. Yes, reading to young children physically helps the development of their brains!" The Toddler Reading Program wraps up on Friday, October 31, 2025, and any child who has listened to 20 books read by a caregiver will receive a book as their prize. The Toddler Reading Program is sponsored by the Friends of the Bettendorf Public Library.
