AUSTIN - The Texas Health and Human Services Commission is hosting a public comment session on Monday, Oct. 13, to gather input on how new federal funding should be used to strengthen rural health care in Texas.
HHSC plans to apply for funding through the Rural Health Transformation Program. As part of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, the program will allocate $50 billion to states over five years for rural health care initiatives.
Members of the public are invited to share feedback on how HHSC should prioritize the funding in its application to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.
Rural health initiatives in Texas will focus on one or more of the following groups:
HHSC plans to submit the state application by Nov. 5, 2025. Awards will be announced by Dec. 31, 2025.
