Initial repairs on Quincy Memorial Bridge to be completed this week

QUINCY - The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that the initial phase of repairs on the Quincy Memorial Bridge (eastbound U.S. 24) over the Mississippi River at Quincy is scheduled to be completed this week. ​

Repairs were needed to reinforce expansion joints that had led to deck failures in mid-February. The expansion joint, when functioning normally, allows the surface of the bridge deck to expand and contract. With the completion of these repairs, traffic on the bridge is scheduled to resume on Saturday, March 14.

Additional repairs to reinforce all remaining expansion joints are planned to begin in mid-April and will take approximately three months. Traffic will be reduced to a single lane across the bridge. Message boards, directional arrows and barrels will help direct traffic. ​

When repairs begin again in April, the public can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips across the bridge. Drivers are urged to pay close attention and obey the posted speed limits.

The replacement of the Memorial Bridge is included in IDOT's latest multi-year program as a joint project with the Missouri Department of Transportation, with construction tentatively to begin in 2029.
