CONCORD - Concord resident Casey Murphy, 33, pleaded guilty today in federal court to child exploitation, U.S. Attorney Erin Creegan announces. Chief U.S. District Judge Samantha D. Elliott scheduled sentencing for January 28, 2027.
According to the public record, Murphy exchanged sexually explicit text messages with a 14-year old minor in California for over three months in 2025. Murphy shared nude images of himself and child sexual abuse materials (CSAM) with the minor. In exchange, Murphy asked the minor to share nude photographs and videos of himself. Murphy also distributed CSAM of the minor to a resident of Pennsylvania.
The charge of production of CSAM carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years and a maximum person term of 30 years. Sentences are imposed by a federal district court judge based upon the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and statutes which govern the determination of a sentence in a criminal case.
Homeland Security Investigations and the Concord Police Department are leading the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Alexander S. Chen is prosecuting the case.
The case is brought as part of Project Safe Childhood. In 2006, the Department of Justice created Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative designed to protect children from exploitation and abuse. Led by the U.S. Attorneys' Offices and the DOJ's Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state and local resources to better locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children, as well as identify and rescue victims.
