Patients who receive a gastrectomy, a surgery that removes part or all of the stomach due to stomach cancer, usually need to change their diets for the rest of their lives. Eliza Wright Beal, M.D., MS, surgical oncologist and member of the Gastrointestinal and Neuroendocrine Oncology Multidisciplinary Team at Karmanos, offered tips on what a patient should consume in their diet and outlined the symptoms of dumping syndrome, which may occur when food travels quickly from the stomach to the small intestine.
