January 20, 2026 - The Bettendorf Police Department (BPD) is continuing its popular Patch Program in February with the return of something red on their blue uniforms.
February is American Heart Month, and for the second year in a row, BPD is partnering with the
Quad Cities HEARTSafe Coalition to raise awareness and money for this local group of knowledgeable community partners who all have a vision to increase bystander Hands-Only CPR to save more lives.
"The Quad Cities HEARTSafe Coalition is extremely proud and thankful to partner with BPD on this patch," said Christina McDonough, Board Chair. "Cardiac arrest happens when the heart stops beating and can happen anywhere to anyone at any time. For every one-minute CPR is not performed on a person in cardiac arrest, the chance of survival decreases by 10%. That's why the Quad Cities HEARTSafe Coalition provides free training to empower and increase bystander CPR to save more lives. Since 2017, our volunteers have trained more than 11,450 Quad Citizens in Hands-Only CPR."
To help share the mission of the Quad Cities HEARTSafe Coalition, BPD designed a Heart Disease Awareness Patch in 2025 that features a red heart and a red ribbon, which is a symbol of heart disease and stroke. Anyone can pre-order a patch for $10 along with apparel that showcases the patch from the
online store. The online store, created by LogoPro in Bettendorf, is open until
February 2, 2026 at 10 a.m. Patches are also available to purchase right now at BPD (1609 State Street) during regular business hours. 100% of the proceeds will go to the Quad Cities HEARTSafe Coalition.
"The donation from this patch will make a positive impact in the Quad Cities as we provide lifesaving Hands-Only CPR training at no cost," said McDonough. "Our 30-minute training is 100% free to any workplace, church, organization or group in the Quad Cities Area. We also provide a free Family & Friends CPR Anytime Kit from the
American Heart Association for the group to keep on hand for future training."
"Every second counts in a cardiac emergency," said Doug Scott, Bettendorf Police Chief. "Hands-Only CPR is simple, effective, and can save lives. You don't need special equipment or training, just the courage to act. Together, we can make our community safer by learning this lifesaving skill."
The Heart Disease Awareness Patch is part of BPD's Patch Program, which includes BPD's Autism Awareness Patch worn in years past in April, their Mental Health Awareness Patch worn in May and September, their Patriotic Patch worn in June and July, and their Breast Cancer Awareness Patch worn in years past in October.
