From first-year uncertainty to a passion for land use law: meet Robby Belt

Robby Belt's journey to law school was both personal and transformative. Growing up as the youngest in a Southern Baptist family, he excelled academically and was a high achiever. Arriving at Cincinnati Law in a light blue suit-confidently standing out among his peers-he navigated early worries about fitting into a traditionally conservative legal culture and instead embraced authenticity and self-expression. Over time, he became comfortable "in his own skin," embracing the law school's emphasis on community and respect for different perspectives.

Throughout law school, Robby discovered a passion for real estate and land use law, a field he initially hadn't expected to pursue. Mentorship from a practicing attorney and hands-on experience at the Entrepreneurship and Community Development Clinic helped steer him toward transactional work that "aligns with his skillset." He found real estate law compelling for its real-world impact on communities and the way intentional development shapes cities like Cincinnati. Now midway through his 2L year, he has secured an externship with the City of Cincinnati's Land Use Department and continues to contribute to the law school community by mentoring others and promoting belonging among students.
