Democrats see turnout surge across Illinois while Republicans flounder
Tonight, Democrat Juliana Stratton clinched victory in the Illinois Democratic primary election for U.S. Senate to succeed Senator Dick Durbin. While Republicans continue to hemorrhage support as Trump's failed policies raise costs on families in Illinois and across the country, Lt. Gov. Stratton is a proven leader who is fighting to lower costs for hardworking Illinoisans and protect their health care.
A reminder: Due to Trump's Big Ugly Bill and disastrous health care policies, over half a million people in Illinois are set to lose their health care and nine rural hospitals are on the brink of closure in the state.
In response, DNC Chair Ken Martin released the following statement:
"Throughout the campaign, Lt. Gov. Stratton remained laser focused on lowering costs for Illinois families who are facing higher costs as a result of Trump's disastrous economic policies. While Republicans are more divided than ever, Democrats are united in our fight to protect health care and ensure every hardworking Illinoisan has a shot at the American Dream. From now until Election Day, Democrats are all in to ensure Juliana Stratton wins big this November - Democrats are clearly on offense."
