CORPUS CHRISTI, TX - The National Weather Service reports that cold air has settled into the region, with temperatures in the 30s and wind chills in the low-20s to low 30s this morning. Gusty northerly winds will persist through the afternoon, keeping conditions brisk. Tonight, clear skies are expected to bring widespread below-freezing temperatures. A Freeze Warning and Cold Weather Advisory are in effect from midnight to 9:00 a.m. Monday.
On Monday, light rain and drizzle are expected to spread across the area, with highs in the 40s keeping precipitation as rain during the day. A wintry mix is expected Monday night through Tuesday. Subfreezing temperatures and cooler air aloft could bring a mix of sleet, snow, and ice across South Texas. Accumulations may cause slick roads and other hazardous impacts.
A Winter Storm Watch is in effect Monday night through Tuesday evening. Highs Tuesday will reach the 30s to low 40s, but some areas may remain below freezing, with wind chills staying at or below freezing all day.
Precipitation will taper off Tuesday evening. Lows Tuesday night are expected to plummet into the teens to mid-20s, with more Freeze Warnings and Cold Weather Advisories likely later this week.
After several days of inclement weather, homeless agencies that provide overnight shelter are at capacity.
Due to the prolonged cold temperatures and out of an abundance of caution, the City of Corpus Christi will open an overnight cold weather refuge center.
