On 3 June 2026, H.E. Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, held a meeting with H.E. Mr. Horii Iwao, State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, on the sidelines of the OECD Ministerial Council Meeting (MCM) in Paris. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening the strategic partnership between Thailand and Japan.

Both sides also discussed ways to build on the strategic cooperation in the lead-up to the 140th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2027, placing emphasis on advancing strategic cooperation in areas of mutual interest, including strengthening security and economic resilience, promoting investment, and advancing cooperation in future industries. The two sides also exchanged views on regional security as well as regional developments and cooperation under ASEAN and the Mekong - Japan framework in support of regional stability, development, and sustainable growth, both in South-east Asia and the Indo-Pacific.

On this occasion, the Deputy Prime Minister expressed appreciation to Japan for its continued support for Thailand's OECD accession process. Thailand aims to achieve OECD membership by 2028, which will help strengthen investor confidence and create further opportunities for Thailand and Japan to expand economic cooperation in areas of mutual interest. #TH2OECD
