May General Obligation Bond update

In his bi-monthly General Obligation Bond update to the City Council, City Manager Michael Spurgeon said the process is on schedule for the April 7, 2026, vote.

The City received results from the Parks and Recreation micro-survey in May. A Public Safety micro-survey will be released in early June. These surveys will influence the City Council's final decision about which projects should be included in the 2026 General Obligation Bond package.

This month, the City also sent a letter to water utility customers updating them on the stages of the bond cycle. Another letter to residents will detail events from a June 18 special City Council meeting.

"At that meeting, the City Council will hear from all of the user groups who have made requests," Spurgeon said. "And the Council will review all of the proposed projects that have been presented for consideration."

According to the City Manager, it will be a full day of presentations and discussions.

"I appreciate the City Council making time for this," he said. "It will lead up to the public forums in late August and September."

A Steering Committee of representatives from Broken Arrow Chamber members, Broken Arrow Public Schools, the Planning Commission, local nonprofits, business owners, and citizens is meeting to discuss the proposed projects.

"We're going through all of the projects, the City Council has their Bond Books, and we've had initial discussions to make sure everyone knows exactly what the propositions are, and we're continuing to make progress," Spurgeon said.

The final list of projects for the 2026 General Obligation Bond will be developed by the end of this year or early next year. This list will take into account various factors, including the results of public surveys, discussions with citizens, input from user groups, feedback from department directors, and a review of proposed projects that were not included in the 2018 General Obligation Bond.
