Sparks, NV - The following are highlights from the April 13, 2026, Sparks City Council meeting.

Announcements, Presentations, Recognition Items, and Items of Special Interest:

• Introduction of Tom Weller, new Dean of UNR College of Engineering.
• A presentation was given about StreetReach, a collaborative effort led by the University of Nevada, Reno that brings community partners together to support people experiencing homelessness.
• Mayor Ed Lawson proclaimed the month of April as Fair Housing Month to recognize the importance of equal access to housing and to reaffirm commitment to preventing discrimination in our community.
• Mayor Ed Lawson proclaimed April 12-18 as Public Safety Telecommunications Week, honoring the Sparks Emergency Communications Dispatchers for their vital role in protecting the community.

General Business

Council approved:

• The Mayor's appointment of Steven Sperber as first alternate, Ricci Rodriguez-Elkins as second alternate, Mike Rawson as third alternate, and Evan Pritsos as fourth alternate to serve on the Truckee Meadows Regional Planning Commission, effective immediately.
• The $125,750.00 agreement with High Desert Graziers for hazard mitigation at the Truckee Meadows Water Reclamation Facility. The City of Sparks' share is approximately $47,543.08.
• A $199,984.95 purchase of X-Series Monitors/Defibrillators, Automated External Defibrillators, and associated hardware from Zoll Medical utilizing the National Purchasing Partners and Lake Tahoe Regional Fire Chiefs' Association pricing contracts.
• An interlocal agreement with the State of Nevada through the Nevada Health Authority Nevada Medicaid for the management of Emergency Transportation, Ground Ambulance Certified Public Expenditure, with reimbursement to the City of Sparks being approximately $2,682,425.00.
• The tentative map request associated with Villages 3 and 7 of the Five Ridges Development.

Public Hearing and Action Items Unrelated to Planning and Zoning

Council held public hearings and approved:

• The Electrical System and Natural Gas Franchise Agreements with Sierra Pacific Power Company.

Sparks Redevelopment Agency Meeting

• The Sparks Redevelopment Agency approved a $3,725,000.00 professional services contract with VanWoertBigotti Architects for architectural design services related to the development of the new Sparks City Hall.
