In keeping with Mexico's longstanding tradition of solidarity with the peoples of Latin America, and at the instruction of President Claudia Sheinbaum, the Ministry of the Navy reports that the humanitarian aid sent by the Government of Mexico has arrived in Cuba. The aid was delivered by the Mexican Navy aboard the logistical support vessels Papaloapan and Isla Holbox, which departed from Veracruz carrying more than 814 tons of supplies for the Cuban people.
Mexico has long supported sister nations in times of need. In recent months, we have provided assistance to countries affected by the wildfires in California and Chile; the floods in Texas; and natural disasters in several countries of the continent.
The supplies, from the Central Naval Region, were assembled at the dock of the National Port System Administration (Asipona) in Veracruz, where they were loaded for shipment.
The Papaloapan transported essential food items-including milk, meat products, crackers, beans, rice, tuna, sardines, and vegetable oil-as well as personal hygiene products, totaling approximately 536 tons, while the Isla Holbox carried just over 277 tons of powdered milk.
The Papaloapan departed the Port of Veracruz at 8:00 a.m. on February 8, and the Isla Holbox set sail around midday. An additional 1,500 tons of powdered milk and beans remain to be shipped.
Through these actions, the Government of Mexico reaffirms the humanistic principles and spirit of solidarity that guide its work, as well as its commitment to international cooperation-particularly with nations facing emergency situations and vulnerability that require humanitarian assistance. Cuba and Mexico are sister nations, bound by a long history of solidarity that we honor today.
