FEMA Assistance to Florida Tops $1.2 Billion in 90 Days

LAKE MARY, Fla. - FEMA announced an additional more than $124 million in funding to support 70 disaster recovery and hazard mitigation projects in Florida, bringing the total provided to the state to more than $1.2 billion in the last 90 days. The funds help communities affected by Hurricanes Helene, Milton and multiple past disasters.

Florida received nearly $117 million in awards under the Public Assistance program. The program helps fund emergency measures and permanent disaster recovery work for local communities. Notable projects include:

  • $87.3 million to state agencies for emergency management, protective measures and restoring state parks and beaches following multiple disasters.
  • $5.5 million for Manatee County emergency operations, judicial center roofing costs, Kingfish Boat Ramp repairs and other recovery efforts following Hurricanes Ian, Helene, and Milton.
  • $5.3 million for Sarasota County Administration Building and Youth Athletic Complex repairs and equipment and other recovery efforts following Hurricanes Ian, Idalia, and Milton.
  • $2.1 million for Escambia County to repair and reinforce a stormwater pumping facility.
  • More than $679,000 for Charlotte County to repair stormwater systems after Hurricane Ian.
  • More than $206,000 for Lee County School District for damaged equipment at South Fort Myers High School after Hurricane Nicole.
  • More than $201,000 for the City of Cape Coral for City Hall repairs after Hurricane Milton.

FEMA provided nearly $7.5 million to the state for its Hazard Mitigation Grant Program. The state-managed program funds cost-effective measures designed to protect lives and property during a future disaster. Notable projects include:

  • More than $4.3 million for 12 Elevate Florida program properties across the state to physically raise an existing home, rebuild stronger, or implement other protective measures.
  • Nearly $1.6 million for Seminole County for drainage improvements, storm drain inlets and sewer pipes.
  • More than $1.1 million for City of Cape Coral wastewater and sewage system improvements.
  • More than $300,000 for the City of Orlando to replace wastewater lift stations and generators.

In addition to the projects announced today, FEMA has provided funding for more than 860 disaster recovery and hazard mitigation projects in the last 90 days.
