Thirty Recruits Begin NOFD Firefighter Training

On Monday, October 21, 2024, the New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD) welcomed Recruit Class R-2-24 to the Victor H. Schiro Municipal Training Academy in New Orleans East. This thirty-member recruit class represents one of the largest group of recruits to initiate NOFD training. The recruits will endure twenty-four weeks of training prior to attaining the opportunity for promotion into the classification of Probationary Firefighter. NOFD recruits are educated in all facets of firefighting including instruction in such classes as: Structural Firefighting Techniques, Apparatus Driver Training, Hazardous Materials, and Marine Firefighting. Upon training conclusion these recruits will be certified as Firefighter I and II, Hazardous Materials at both the Awareness and Operations Level, as well as Medical First Responders by the State of Louisiana Credentialling board(s).
