Public Consultation Survey | Climate Change Adaptation of Atlantic Ports

Pillar I of the Atlantic Action Plan of the European Commission, has launched a public consultation survey on the Climate Change Adaptation of Atlantic Ports.

The survey aims to collect the views, know-how, experiences and priorities of professionals linked to Atlantic ports, in order to support the development of a practical methodological guide for climate change adaptation, applicable to different port contexts across the Atlantic area.

The main objective is to define the key steps of a practical and flexible climate change adaptation methodological guide for Atlantic ports.

Specific objectives

• Identify perceived and experienced climate impacts in Atlantic ports
• Understand what is already being done, including existing measures, good practices and barriers
• Identify real needs to ensure the guide is operational, useful and applicable
• Ensure the guide reflects the diversity of Atlantic port typologies (fishing, commercial, recreational, industrial ports, among others) and their associated activities (e.g. logistics, refrigeration)

While some ports have already developed adaptation plans or management tools, many others are still at an early stage or lack a structured methodology to assess risks and define adaptation measures. This initiative seeks to establish a common baseline approach, while remaining adaptable to the wide diversity of Atlantic port realities.

Who should participate?

The survey is open to all professionals connected to Atlantic ports, regardless of their technical background. Participants are invited to base their responses on:

• The type of organisation they belong to
• Their main area of work
• The type of port with which they are most familiar

This will ensure that the results accurately reflect the diversity of port contexts and operational realities across the Atlantic.
