Montgomery, AL - The All Roads Lead to the South organizing committee is honored to announce that Rev. Dr. Bernice A. King, CEO of The King Center will join us this Saturday, May 16, 2026 in Montgomery, Alabama, for our National Day of Action. Selma and Montgomery remain sacred ground in the struggle for freedom and voting rights, places forever tied to the legacy and leadership of her parents, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Coretta Scott King, whose work and sacrifice helped transform the nation and inspired generations to continue the fight for justice.
May 16 will kick off a sustained summer of organizing - voter mobilization, civic education, economic pressure, legal advocacy, and direct action - rooted in the tradition of Freedom Summer.
As we face renewed attacks on voting rights and Black political power across the South, Rev. Dr. Bernice A. King's presence serves as a powerful reminder that the movement her parents helped lead is far from over. The same spirit that fueled the Montgomery Bus Boycott and the march from Selma to Montgomery continues to live on through communities organizing, mobilizing, and demanding a democracy that works for all of us.
"All Roads Lead To The South is a trumpet moment" said Rev. Dr. Bernice A. King,
CEO, The King Center. "Like in Nehemiah, when the trumpet sounded, the people left their separate places on the wall and came together to defend what was sacred. The ruling is that sound. And this trumpet call is not for a moment; it is for a movement."
Thousands are expected to gather in Selma and Montgomery on Saturday and at solidarity events in communities across the country to stand united in defense of our rights, our voices, and our future.
The day will begin at 9am CT, at the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma with local, regional, and faith leaders gathering in prayer and remembrance - on sacred ground, in reverence for those who marched in 1965, in gratitude for the moral courage they showed the nation, and in faith that the same Spirit that moved them still moves in us.
At 1pm CT in the afternoon, there will be a national rally and call to action in Montgomery to launch a sustained mobilization effort with hundreds of local and national partners. For those who can't come to Montgomery, there will be solidarity organizing events, voter mobilizations and activations around the country.
We are proud to stand alongside leaders, organizers, faith voices, and everyday people answering the call to action in this critical moment.
