Long-term lanes closures on El Camino Real in San Mateo County

San Mateo County Caltrans continues work on the State Route 82 El Camino Real Roadway Renewal Project with full and partial road closures in Burlingame and San Mateo so that crews can perform curb, gutter, and sidewalk work.

Long-term, partial roadway closures through August 2026

Two lanes between Grove Ave. and Oxford Ave. will be closed starting Wednesday, April 29 at 6 p.m. The closure will last until August 3, 2026. There will be one of lane of traffic open in the northbound direction and one lane of traffic open in the southbound direction.

Starting Thursday, May 7 through August 2026, two lanes will be closed between East Bellevue and Peninsula. There will be one of lane of traffic open in the northbound direction and one lane of traffic open in the southbound direction.

Drivers should expect delays and allow extra time in their commute.

Short-term roadway closure information

A full closure of Rosedale Ave. to Lincoln Ave. takes place on Wednesday, April 29 and Thursday, April 30 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Two lanes will be closed between Peninsula Ave. and Clark Dr. between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. from Thursday, April 30 through Wednesday, May 6.

Detour

Driving north on El Camino Real, turn right on Lincoln, left on California, and left on Rosedale, right on El Camino Real.

Driving south on El Camino Real, turn left on Rosedale, right on California, right on Lincoln, and left on El Camino Real.

For SamTrans riders, there are temporary bus stops during the closure period so please refer to their detour webpage for more information.

The $173M El Camino Real roadway rehabilitation project will maintain El Camino Real as a safe, accessible, and reliable transportation corridor. The project encompasses repaving the road and upgrading sidewalks for enhanced mobility. It also aims to reduce localized flooding and to improve visibility.
