City Council Approves FY 2026-2027 Budget

The Grand Prairie City Council approved a $573.5 million operating budget at its Sept. 15 meeting.

The balanced budget is designed to deliver on the City's commitment to the community, maintaining essential services and addressing priorities identified by our residents, elected leaders, and City staff.

Budget Highlights

  • The adopted budget for fiscal year 2026-27 is $573.5 million.
  • The largest investment is $144 million for public safety, with $52.8 million supporting the fire department, and $91.5 million for police department.
  • The second-largest investment is the water department, with $131.5 million to make sure our city's water is clean, safe, and reliable.
  • $20.8 million from the proposed budget covers the expenses of our solid waste fund.
  • The adopted budget also includes enough funding for our parks, libraries, special events, and all 27 City departments that serve our residents.

Funding for this budget comes from several sources, including property taxes, utility fees, service charges, grants and other revenue.
