Wildlife Conservation Commission supports nearly $75,000 in environmental and wildlife grants

The Napa County Wildlife Conservation Commission (WCC) recently unanimously supported $74,909 in funding for 11 grants for the 2025-26 WCC Grant Cycle. The grants support a range of impactful projects, with a strong focus on environmental education, wildlife research, and wildlife rehabilitation.

The grant award requests received during this grant cycle totaled approximately $135,000 and represents a continued elevated total amount of funds requested in a cycle relative to available funds, with the average amount requested per cycle over the last five years being approximately $67,864.

Since 2002, the Napa County Wildlife Conservation Commission has provided over $1,103,000 in funding for local projects and programs that champion wildlife rehabilitation, environmental education, habitat restoration, wildlife research and land acquisition. Funding for WCC grants is sourced from the Department of Fish and Wildlife court fines and settlements, local fines and settlements designated for this specific purpose, and contributions from the Napa County General Fund.

The Napa County Wildlife Conservation Commission is an eight-member commission that advises the Napa County Board of Supervisors on funding proposals that preserve and enhance Napa County wildlife and their habitats, pursuant to California Fish and Game Code §13103.
