OGH’s Mildred Milliman Radiation Medicine Center reopens with advanced technology

OGH's Mildred Milliman Radiation Medicine Center reopens with advanced technology

Olean, NY - Olean General Hospital (OGH), a Kaleida Health facility, is proud to announce the reopening of the Mildred Milliman Radiation Medicine Center and the return of radiation oncology services, anchored by a new state-of-the-art Varian TrueBeam 4.1 linear accelerator. Following months of renovation and investment, the center is now welcoming patients and delivering advanced radiation therapy close to home for residents across the region.

The reopening goes beyond a technology upgrade. The project completely reimagined the patient experience - pairing leading-edge treatment technology with a thoughtfully redesigned healing environment centered on comfort, dignity and compassionate care.

"This is an incredibly exciting moment for our team and our community," said Roberta Truman, Manager of Radiation Therapy. "The technology is remarkable, but so is the environment we've created for our patients."

At the heart of the transformation is the Varian TrueBeam 4.1 linear accelerator, which delivers highly precise, efficient and personalized radiation treatments with enhanced accuracy and patient comfort.

Nearly every area of the center has also been refreshed and modernized. Facility upgrades include:

  • A private waiting room and changing area designed for women
  • A dedicated men's dressing room
  • A private room for the new Robes for Comfort program, offering patients added dignity and comfort during treatment
  • New ceiling tiles and energy-efficient LED lighting throughout
  • New flooring and updated wall colors for a brighter, more welcoming atmosphere
  • New cabinetry across patient care and clinical areas
  • A renovated nurses station to support care coordination
  • New artwork displayed throughout the facility

While the facility is transformed, patients will continue to be cared for by the trusted team they know. Radiation therapists, nurses and support staff have all returned to support operations.

"Patients may see a completely transformed facility, but they'll still find the same compassionate team dedicated to providing exceptional care close to home," Truman added.

Experienced radiation oncologists Dr. Chi Tsang and Dr. William Demas will provide onsite patient care. Dr. Tsang, a long-time resident of the region, earned his medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine, Detroit, MI. He completed residencies in nuclear medicine at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center, New York, NY and radiation oncology at St. Catherine Hospital Cancer Center, Garden City, KS. Dr. Tsang is American Board Certified in Radiation Oncology.

Dr. Demas earned his medical degree from State University of New York Downstate Medical Center, Brooklyn, NY. He completed radiation oncology residency at Downstate-Kings County Hospital, Brooklyn, NY and radiation oncology fellowship at University of Texas MD Anderson Hospital, Houston, TX. Dr. Demas brings more than three decades of clinical experience to his role.

"Cancer treatment is about more than medicine - it's about creating an environment where patients feel supported, comfortable and cared for during one of the most difficult times in their lives," said Bradley J. Chapman, president, OGH. "This $4.1 million investment brings together advanced technology, compassionate care and an enhanced patient experience all under one roof."
