Whitehouse Statement on Shooting at Brown University

Providence, RI - U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) today released the following statement after a mass shooting on the Brown University campus:

"I'm praying for the victims and their families. My heart breaks for the students who were looking forward to a holiday break and instead are dealing with another horrifying mass shooting, this time in our own Providence community. We cannot thank enough the members of the Brown University Police Department, the Providence Police and Fire Departments, and all the first responders from across the state who are on the scene tonight. They put themselves in harm's way to protect all of us.

"This is an active situation, and I echo Mayor Smiley in urging Rhode Islanders to heed only official updates from Brown University and the Providence Police. We will get through this as a community."
