Airport Emergency Exercise Scheduled at Santa Fe Regional Airport

The City of Santa Fe, in coordination with public safety partners from Santa Fe County, regional hospitals, and private airlines, will conduct an emergency response exercise on Friday, March 27, at the Santa Fe Regional Airport.

The exercise will simulate an aircraft crash, providing first responders, health care providers, and public safety communicators an opportunity to strengthen coordination and response in the event of a real emergency.

This full-scale exercise is conducted every three years to evaluate and maintain emergency response procedures and to support FAA certification requirements. It will take place in a secure area of the airport that is closed to the public.

The coordinated, multi-agency response also supports wildfire initial attack preparedness. While wildfire is a different hazard, the response structure is similar and involves many of the same personnel. This training helps strengthen overall emergency readiness across the City of Santa Fe and surrounding communities.

Additional airport firefighting training will take place during the week prior to the exercise. This training will include controlled fire activity and will be conducted in a closed area of the airport, away from passenger or commercial aircraft. Smoke and flames may be visible from outside the training area.
