FWPD’s Civilian Response Unit is hiring

FWPD's Civilian Response Unit is hiring

Published on October 01, 2025

The Civilian Response Unit (CRU) is currently open for applications and will be hiring for nine positions.

The CRU began in 2021 with the Fort Worth Police Department's (FWPD) desire to provide residents with better service. The realization that every call for service did not require a police officer to respond created the unit, which is a group of unarmed civilians.

They do not respond to calls where a suspect is on the scene or likely to return. CRU personnel investigate the call, collect evidence (including fingerprinting) and write the police report.

The CRU participates in community and city activities such as:

  • Safety fairs
  • Community events
    • Easter Egg hunts
    • Trunk-or-treats
    • Toy distribution
  • Back to school distributions (jackets, backpacks and school supplies)
  • Traffic control for City activities and parades

  • Job board
  • Facebook video
