On Thursday, July 16, the City of Garden Grove held a ceremony dedicating the newly renamed Eric J. Williams Teen Center at Eastgate Park in honor of the late Eric Williams and his lasting service to local youth and the Garden Grove community.
Garden Grove Mayor Stephanie Klopfenstein was joined by City Council members, community leaders, the Williams family, members of West Garden Grove Community Church and community members for the ceremony celebrating Williams' legacy of service and mentorship. During the ceremony, the City unveiled a rendering of a permanent plaque that will be installed outside the Teen Center in Williams' honor.
"This recognition reflects our community's appreciation for a remarkable leader, mentor, husband, father and friend," said Mayor Stephanie Klopfenstein. "When City budget challenges put youth programming at risk, he stepped in to keep the program going and brought volunteers to Eastgate Park."
Following an item brought forward by Mayor Stephanie Klopfenstein, seconded by Vice Mayor George Brietigam and approved by the Garden Grove City Council, the naming of the Eastgate Park Teen Center honors the late Eric Williams and recognizes his lasting contributions to local youth and the Garden Grove community.
