Spokesperson's Press Briefing (November 6, 2025)

Press Briefing

Spokesperson and Deputy Minister for Public Affairs Lee Jaewoong

November 6, 2025 14:30 KST

Good afternoon. Let me start today's briefing.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Cho Hyun will visit Phnom Penh, Cambodia, from November 9 to 11.

During the visit, Foreign Minister Cho will meet with a number of Cambodian government officials to discuss the way forward for Korea-Cambodia relations, including cooperation for the eradication of scam-related crimes in Cambodia. He will also attend a meeting of local Korean residents.

Currently, the two countries are in active consultation to start running at an early date the "Korea Task Force," -- a Korea-Cambodia joint task force between the national police agencies of the two countries dedicated to addressing issues concerning Koreans -- which they agreed at the summit last month to set in motion in November. The negotiations for a memorandum of understanding to that effect are in their final stages.

The Task Force, after put into operation in November, is expected to greatly help resolve the involvement of Korean nationals in scam-related crimes in Cambodia.

Moving on, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Park Yoonjoo, together with his Japanese counterpart Funakoshi Takehiro, will hold the 16th Korea-Japan Vice- Ministerial Strategic Dialogue in Seoul on Friday, November 7.

The Dialogue will cover in depth a broad range of issues including Korea-Japan relations as well as regional and global affairs.

Lastly, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Kim Jina will visit New York, the United States, from November 9 to 11.

On November 10, the Vice Minister will attend a United Nations Security Council high-level open debate to be chaired by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Sierra Leone, and discuss with other participants ways to prevent illicit trade in small arms and light weapons (SALW).

On the sidelines, Vice Minister Kim will meet with high-level officials of the UN Secretariat to discuss ways for Korea-UN cooperation.

She will also hold a meeting with Korean nationals working in international organizations to listen to their opinions on ways to expand Korean representation in international organizations, among others.

(A question-and-answer session followed.)
