Rugby team say thank you for sponsorship

Young rugby players turned out en masse to thank us for a donation towards new equipment.

Members of the mixed U13 and U14 squad at Witham Rugby Club applied to our Essex region for a grant through their Community Champions scheme and were rewarded with a £2,000 grant for upgrading equipment.

The club, based in Spa Road, Witham, offers young people from across the town the opportunity to train and play together, encouraging teamwork, a focus of fitness and the chance to spend time outdoors together.

Leigh Adams, coach at Witham Rugby Club, said: "We would all like to thank Persimmon Homes for their support. We have a real range of young people playing for us, from different schools and different ages, and we also offer funded places to give youngsters an opportunity to take up the sport - something we could not do without support like this."

Terri Smith, Head of Customer Care for Persimmon Homes Essex, said: "It is a pleasure to support the club and offer them this funding, knowing it will be used to create new opportunities for the young players, especially those who may not be able to access other out-of-school activities.

"Our head office is based in Witham and we are proud of our connections here and across the county. We are working with organisations, charities and clubs to build stronger communities."
