Caleb Simon is the Assistant Director of Law Career Strategy and joined W&L in October 2024. Originally from Houston, TX, he spent most of his childhood and adolescence in Guadalajara, Mexico. He now resides in Lynchburg, VA, with his fiancée, Esther, a middle school family and consumer science teacher, their two dogs, Whiskey and Cocoa, and three cats, Sprinkles, Moscato, and Merlot.
Q. Where is your favorite location on the W&L campus?
Woods Creek Trail! I try to walk it every day during my lunch break. It is nice to unplug for a while and breathe in the fresh air.
Q. What is your favorite thing to do when you are not working?
Spending time with friends and family - especially around a meal or tabletop game. I am by no means a tabletop game enthusiast; Catan is about as complicated as I can get.
Q. Book/Podcast/TV Show Recommendation?
"11/22/63" is my all-time favorite Stephen King novel, but anything by Stephen King is a good option! If you are looking for a good Stephen King TV adaptation, then I would recommend "Outsider" on HBO. "11/22/63" on Hulu is good too, but the book beats it hands down. It's a closer race between "Outsider" the novel and "Outsider" the show.
Q. Who inspires you?
My parents. I aspire to emulate their relationship and values. They've found fulfillment in serving others, and I hope to do the same.
Q. If you could have coffee or tea with one person, who would it be and why?
My grandfather, Gramps. He was a formative part of my childhood, and there are so many stories I'd love to hear again and questions I wish I'd asked when I had the chance.
Q. What is an accomplishment you are proud of?
Convincing Esther to marry me! She unknowingly thwarted many of my surprise proposals, so I finally had to let her in on the plan.
Q. Favorite food/restaurant/drink?
Mellow Mushroom's Cloud9 Wings and Pretzel Bites with Beer Cheese. It's a date night go-to.
Q. Most used/enjoyable app on your phone?
Spotify, especially for the drives to and from Lexington. I'm running low on podcast ideas, so I'm open to recommendations!
