OMAHA, NEBRASKA-- Today, Berkshire Hathaway's Chairman and CEO, Warren Buffett, announced he plans to retire at the end of 2025. Buffett said he will recommend to the board that Greg Abel, currently the Vice Chairman and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway Energy, will take responsibility as the new CEO and Chairman at the end of the year.
In response, Sierra Club Staff Attorney, Rose Monahan, released the following statement:
"During Greg Abel's reign, Berkshire Hathaway Energy has operated the dirtiest fleet of coal plants in the country, and that's a fact. There is no indication that Berkshire Hathaway wants to be a climate leader, and Abel's appointment is Exhibit A. While Berkshire Hathaway executives and shareholders rake in billions in profit every year, the rest of us are paying the price for their climate inaction. Devastating wildfires, destructive hurricanes, droughts, and floods are already here, and it's only going to get worse."
