About the New York State Film Tax Credit Program

New York State's Film Tax Credit Program is one of the most comprehensive film and television incentive programs in the nation, offering a 30% tax credit on qualified costs - with an additional 10% credit available for eligible projects filming in designated Upstate counties. The program, funded at $700 million annually and extended through 2036, supports New York's robust film and television ecosystem, which includes 130 Qualified Production Facilities and more than 500 soundstages statewide.

Recent updates under the FY 2026 State Budget further strengthen the program's competitiveness, including the new Production+ program incentivizing recurring multi-project commitments, the $100 million Empire State Independent Production Program, expanded above-the-line eligibility, and enhanced incentives for post-production, VFX, animation, and musical scoring. Together, these investments attract major films and television projects, drive private-sector growth, and support thousands of jobs across New York's film and television industry.
